The Whole Earth

We made a park with trampolines and spinners. We built two houses and they were two story houses. We have a jail in the forest. We built Francis Douglas School with a toilet that smells of lollipops. We put flags and signs everywhere so that people wouldn't get lost. There are pathways to the Police Station and lots of roads.

This is how big the Kingfish was. It was humungous, five metres long but look out for the prickles.

The Airport

Easy Blog Photo
This is our airport. It has a airport control tower. It has a person inside it to talk on the radio to tell the planes what to do. He tells them when it is time to lift off. The crane lifts the luggage onto the bridge and the little cars. "Time to lift off" said Darcy.

My Dinosaur World

This is my dinosaur world.
The dinosaurs have to stay in the fence.  The biggest dinosaur can climb over the fence with his big legs because he is the tallest.
The red blocks are the meat.  The T-Rex is by the meat.
The stones are the rocks.
The brown and green blocks are the trees.

Riding Our Bikes

Reading and writing about things you enjoy makes literacy fun.  We have been reading lots of books about bikes and racing.   We wrote a letter home asking if we could bring our bike or scooter to school.  We had lots of fun and we shared our bikes and scooters with the children who couldn't bring their bikes that day.

We were all a bit tired after all that racing around!

Alba helped Lawrie ride her bike.  "Look ahead Lawrie I'll push

 you!"
Charley supporting Lily on Kairangi's scooter.

Kairangi demonstrated to the other children how to use the brake on the scooter to help you to stop.

My Sailboat

Easy Blog Photo

Here is my sailboat. It was hard to make.

Lawrie helped me by holding the mast while I stuck it on. Then I helped hold Lawrie's boat.

My sailboat is going to go to the islands to find treasure. They are going to look under the ground of the sand. They might find treasure.

Working on Reading

Darcy is learning to look at all the words and check that they look right, sound right and make sense. You were thinking carefully about the words 'little' and 'big' Darcy, well done!

Snakes and Ladders

In a maths workshop some of the children were learning how to count in twos, fives, tens.  We went outside and used the  numbers on the snakes and ladders grid to help us learn our goal.
The next day Darcy, Jesse and Alba went outside and played Snakes and Ladders using a large dice Jesse had found. When Mrs Johnson went outside to see  what they were playing she was amazed how they were independently playing snakes and ladders and how they were all following the rules of the game.  Each player was supporting each other to count on  and move to the right number which was a bit tricky as the numbers on the dice went up to nine!

Writing Workshop Outside

Darcy's current writing goal is to use his word card to help him spell words he needs when he writes his stories. Today we had our writing workshop  on this goal outside.  First we read the words on our resource card then we each took turns reading a word on the card.   The rest of the children had to locate the word then write it with chalk on the concrete.  We don't have to write only in our books.  We can write anywhere!

Using My Word Card

Darcy's current writing goal is to use his resource card when he is writing to help him spell many of the simple words he uses in her stories.  Today we all practised reading the words on the word card.  Then we took turns reading a word from the card and then every one writing that word down on a white board.  We tried very hard to write each letter in our words around the right way.  It was bit tricky trying to think of a sentence using our word.

Our Phonics Lesson

In our phonics lessons, we have been learning about word families. This week we are learning words that belong to the 'at' family. Here is our silly sentence:

What other words belong to the 'at' family?

Author's Chair 2

Darcy was working really hard during Write to Self time.  He was copying words from a story book so he could practice reading them.  His goal is to be able to share a story with his little sister, Stella.  You are a kind big brother, Darcy!
